Epic's Mark Rein knows the final Wii U specs

Have you noticed that Mark Rein has seemed a lot more pro Nintendo lately with the announcement of the Wii U? Well it seems that he knows a lot more about the specs of Wii U than he is letting on. Take a look below:

In a recent interview with EDGE, Mark Rein made an interesting statement regarding the Wii U:

E: Did you make any assumptions about Nintendo’s new hardware before Wii U was announced? Did it tally?

MR: Oh, wow. A really sticky situation. We were in the enviable position of not having to make assumptions, let’s just say that. I’m pretty impressed with the Wii U. It looks like a great device and I think it’ll do really well.

Now we all know Mark Rein from Epic Games has not been the type of game developer that touts innovation. He has always been about high tech graphics first, followed by great gameplay/innovation. In regards to his "enviable" statement, that word means: exciting envy; fortunate or privileged. It takes a lot to impress this guy and it seems that Nintendo released the final specs to Epic to either entice them to help Nintendo make that Garden demo or to get them on board with bringing one of their franchises to the Wii U like Gears of War or Unreal Tournament.

Either way, I'm willing to bet that when he's saying "I'm pretty impressed with the Wii U" he's saying that he is impressed with the power of the machine to produce amazing graphics. This is just speculation of course, but with Mark's past record in the business, he has always been about graphics first. Does the Zelda demo look as good as the Samaritan demo? In my opinion I think it does very much so, but the art style is so different that it's hard to make a direct comparison graphically. It definitely looks amazing either way.

  1. Well it sounds like all the big 3 graphic whores Crytek/Epic/Valve all know the final specs and seem quite happy to give us little insights like Valve its alot more powerful than ps3 Crytek said its very powerful and Epic says hes very happy it all points to major graphic/gameplay upgrades from a ps3 level cant wait with these 3 and Nintendo the WiiU is already a success

EA games just said the exact opposite, they said wiiu might be able to COUGH AS THEY PUT IT REPRODUCE PS3 X360 GRAPHICS....in other words down on nintendo and up on sony and ms so not to offend there fanboys.. sad and pathetic EA wiiu will kick ps3 ass its obvious so stop the hurp durp fanboying...

3rd partys seem more interested in not hurting ps3 fanboy feelings than actually answering things there asked

  3. EA and Ubishit saying its good for ports then go all gay when asked to say how powerful it really is its like the industry is all in a tither a bit dizzy in the head

only nintendo has this effect on humans really aleins watching from outa space would be like WTF is it with this nintendo everyone lying about them

its weird the effect nintendo has on other companys and there deranged fans

ps3 down to 159 pounds in the uk thats only 30 pounds more than wii its like a ps3 for 150 dollars in the u.s thats how low it is...

this is clear indication there trying to sell big numbers as wiiu hits x360 and ps3 will die a death and big choices will be needed at ms and sony...

    i might get a ps3 as i dont yet have a bluray...

  4. Epic's support will be highly beneficial for Nintendo. The majority of games use the Unreal Engine 3 technology, and most of the multiplatform Wii titles have forced developers to use outdated engines or create bad proprietary ones to compensate for the lack of it. The Wii U will not be left out this time and we already got potentially great ones, Batman: Arkham City and Aliens: Colonial Marines, to lead its launch.

  5. Look as long as Crytek/Valve/Epic now its real power who cares they will set the bar EA will have to follow PERIOD i mean EA does say with the extra proccessing power and gpu so they do know its more powerful reproducing ps3 graphics means reproducing them at 1080p/60fps
