The Playstation Vita is coming to the United States on February 22nd. The launch lineup looks pretty good with standout games such as: Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Wipeout 2048 and Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. The prices range from $300 for the 3G model to $250 for the Wi-Fi model. Sony also just announced that for 3G users monthly online data service prices will be $15-25 a month depending on the amount of data used. With all this considered, what else could be an issue with the launch of the Playstation Vita?
Well, one point of interest is that the 3DS is going to have one of the best February months in game release history. If some of you are unsure about what exactly is coming in the month of February for the 3DS, take a look at this:
Resident Evil: Revelations
Tekken 3D Prime Edition
Tales of the Abyss
Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games
Pro Evolution Soccer 2012
Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D
Combine this list of games with the much lower price of the 3DS and the Playstation Vita might have a hard time starting momentum here in the States. The hardcore gamer purchased the Vita on launch week in Japan during the holiday season last month/year, but the second week of sales saw a drastic 80% drop just before Christmas. The trend could repeat itself here in the US.
The 3DS for example quickly recovered momentum from it's own slow start with the drastic price drop and amazing games at the right time. Sony could be forced to do something similar if it hopes to even keep pace with the 3DS and it's already 12 million system lead in the portable wars.

ReplyDeleteI love some good competition. We get Metal Gear Solid (which honestly controlled pretty poorly at E3) and Resident Evil in the same month. Thanks Vita.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I got Mario Kart 7 so I will hopefully see you online soon.
