*Rumor* Nintendo looking to buy back RARE?

Do you remember when that RARE logo actually meant something? Well if this rumor is to be believed, then so does Nintendo. The rumor suggest that Nintendo not only wants to buy back RARE but with the purpose to get Banjo Kazooie back in action. Take a look at the details:

"Nintendo is in direct negotiations with Microsoft to buy RARE, though the purpose of buying them seems to be all based around getting the rights to Banjo and Kazooie. Of course, we can’t forget the other key franchises Nintendo gets with the acquisition. Conker’s Bad Fur Day may have been shunned by Nintendo, but a sequel to that game should be embraced by the Nintendo brass if they want the Wii U to really be for everyone. Of course, this rumor doesn’t stop there - it goes as far as to suggest that Retro Studios is actually deep into development on a Banjo and Kazooie title, and that the talks with Microsoft have been ongoing for some time."

Now if this were true, would this be good news or not so good news? Rare hasn't really done much of anything for Microsoft and even though Microsoft is just as much to blame as Rare is, I'm not sure it would be a good move on Nintendo's part to re-buy the company right now when they are in the middle of spending a lot of money trying to get the Wii U launched this holiday. If the re-purchase does happen, one good thing that would come out of it might be Nintendo pushing Rare harder to make sequels to Perfect Dark, Killer Instinct, Conker, Banjo Kazooie (if Retro isn't making it already), Kameo and even classics like Battletoads. What about finally getting the original Goldeneye in HD?

These are all nice thoughts, but many things have to happen first before we can even start considering this rumor as true.

The question is: Will Microsoft accept the buy out even though RARE had it's most successful software release with the various Kinect titles?! I don't think so. Now if Microsoft sees no value in Rare's properties like Banjo, Perfect Dark, Conker, Kemeo, Viva Pinata (I believe that was on DS a long while back) then Microsoft might be able to get a good deal on them for cash; maybe even pay off some bills. Of course; considering Nintendo just came off it's first losing year in thirty years; I think Nintendo will wait until they have made the $533 million back before they make a deal.

So no; Retro's game will not be a Rare based title. I believe it will be a sequel to Star Tropics simply because of the Uncharted rub ST has. If we see anything from Rare; it would be for Virtual Console and it would allow for Diddy Kong Racing to be on VC. Besides; Rare as we originally know it is dead and the Rare at Microsoft is by name only.

that doesnt make sense as RARE IS ONLY RARE BY NAME NOT NATURE the people that made rare all left years ago most before the sale to ms

there is no RARE any more it was simply absorbed into microsoft all nintendo would be buying is the name and the rights

not the company as in people and talent AS ITS NOT THERE ANY MORE

JUST TO POINT OUT HOW DUMB MS WAS AND HOW PRUDENT NINTENDO ARE

nintendo sold rare to ms for something like £250million and rare failed ms purchosed rare to look good to console gamers only for it to fail and rare employees to report slave conditions at ms

nintendo then spent 1 million dollars on retro studios and there first game won game of the year metroid prime

I FIND THAT HILARIOUS

Okay; they only did one Kinect title which was the sports title; which did almost 5 million unit in sales. Which is better than all of their non-Donkey Kong efforts. Still lower than Donkey Kong Returns; but whatever.

The only reason Nintendo should even considering getting IP rights back from Rare is for Killer Instinct, Perfect Dark, and Blast Corps. The rest of of that crap they can keep. Nintendo has enough furry mascot. They don't need Banjo or Conker.

Killer Instinct is priority one. PERIOD.

Grant Kirkhope and other original ex Rare members stated on Twitter that they are in the very, very early works of a Banjo-Tooie spiritual successor. It's possible that when finished, could go on to be published by Nintendo.

When I think or read anything about Rare, the only things that pops into my head is N64, Donkey Kong 64, and the Banjo-Kazzoie series. I’m not a person that thinks Microsoft has ruined Rare. More like Nintendo used them to their full potential. The games on the N64 were classics and great games. I feel that if they were allowed to get back to the Virtual Console alone would be great, but when I see that there could be a possibility of reboots or new games excites me. I feel that Nintendo could use the new hardware to their advantage. Think, with Rare there might be a new game to the Banjo series or maybe play Donkey Kong 64, now redone in the HD systems or in 3D. I can only see good things coming out from this deal, if it actually happens. And as a fan of the games themselves I’d love to see the bear and bird get another amazing game or to go back to DK island one more time in a brand new game.

I would love nintendo to buy back Rare, they had so many good games on N64. lets face it. Microsoft did it to FUCK nintendo over. Microsoft took a lot of good games to put it on the xbox. anyway I would love a Perfect Dark remake (a good one) on wii u. Microsoft is a bunch of dirty smug fucks.

Nintendo should buy back Rare and get us Banjo-Threeie which was promised to us at the end of Banjo-Tooie. Imagine that game with the Wii U graphics! Another great game everyone is forgetting is Jet Force Gemini! They could make a Jet Force Gemini 2 with that as well and amazing graphics for that as well!

Let's say Rare is bought back by Nintendo but the original people long left so it's just a few if any so instead of seeing BK what we will see is a new IP be brought out which I hope as I don't want a crappy remake unless they make one for the Nintendo 3 Dee S and with the *hot swap* features.

Nintendo will only do what the government allows them to do so if it looks like it won't invest then the group will think that.

Japan has an entirely different business model then America does which the governments give starting money to companies like Honda and Nintendo to invest in and if they can't convince the government that it's worth investing they won't get the money. They don't have a more free economy and have to go thru government hoops to get any decisions done.

It's always been that way and up until post WW2 a business man would actually commit a ritual suicide if he failed in order to not bring shame upon the clan *family*.

In the 1960s/70s American youths who went to Japan to do baseball and see what it was like there found out that everybody has to be group think which spills into the business world.

If you go out there and win for the team you will still be frowned upon because you went against the groups decision if they decide to *play it safe* and you go out there and do something unique even if it succeeds you will be hated.

If Harry Potter did his moves that he did during Quidditch in a Japanese culture he would've been immediately out casted for going against the *groups* decisions to not take risks hurting themselves if that's what they decided regardless if Harry won or not.

Here in America and in Great Britain as much as Congress tries to take it away we can still value individuality even within groups which is what made Rareware so successful. Nintendo allowed some degree of freedom for Rare Ware in their decision making.

Microsoft has adapted the group think style and either the whole group agrees or nothing goes whiich is likely why Rare is stuck making Kinect games because the group decided that's the way to go. In fact I wouldn't put it past MS that the reason they bought Rare was to shut down competition.

At the time MS bought Rare they wanted to make their first game system X-Box but if Rare was at Nintendo there would've been some serious competition so that competition got snuffed out by offering Rareware a deal they couldn't refuse. Rare took the bait and the rest is history!

I recall Rare ware being excited about the New Deal thinking they would be able to play with the Xbox graphics and have fun experimenting.
